Kalliopi Amygdalou is an architectural historian and Principal Investigator of the ERC Starting Grant HOMEACROSS. She has previously worked at ELIAMEP as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellow (Programme REPLICIAS, 2017-2019), and her research interests include questions of space, architecture and cultural heritage in southeastern Europe. Prior to joining ELIAMEP, Kalliopi worked as Lecturer for two years at the School of Architecture of Izmir Institute of Technology in Turkey (2015-2017). She completed her doctoral studies at the Bartlett School of Architecture (U.C.L.) in 2014 with a thesis on the politics of heritage and modernisation in early-20th century Izmir and Thessaloniki.

She has her B.Arch and M.Arch degrees from Yıldız Technical University in Istanbul and received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan specializing on history and theory of architecture. Her academic work focuses on the past and present spatial practices within heritage sites including their representations in various forms of narratives, such as oral histories and literature.

Dr. F. Nurşen Kul is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at Izmir Institute of Technology. She earned her doctoral degree from Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2010 with a thesis on conservation of Early Republican architecture. She received her M.Sc. in restoration from METU (2003) and her bachelor’s degree in architecture from Karadeniz Technical University (1998).

Leonidas Moiras (Postdoctoral Researcher)

Leonidas Moiras received his PhD in modern Ottoman history from the Democritus University of Thrace in 2019. His dissertation is entitled “The Ottoman Perceptions of the Greek Nationalism 1821-1870. He is teaching History of the Ottoman Empire and Ottoman paleography at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Asrav Emine Cigdem (Postdoctoral Researcher)

Emine Çiğdem Asrav, a conservation architect and former Post-Doctoral Researcher at HOMEACROSS, continues her research activities as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie CoCirculation2 fellow at Middle East Technical University (METU) and Politecnico di Torino.
Additionally, she involved national, international and multi-disciplinary projects including Sagalassos Archaeological Research Project (SARP) with Leuven University, Hands-on Practice for Sustainable Local Development project with Global Heritage Fund and SARP as an organizer and coordinator, ‘Sivil Mimari Bellek Ankara 1930-1980’ project supported by TUBITAK and VEKAM. She is a member of national and international organizations such as ICOMOS Turkey, ICOMOS-ISSCL, TMMOB, KORDER and MD1927.
Her main areas of interests are multi-cultural heritage, multi-layered landscapes, rural heritage, heritage policies, place-based and community-driven conservation. Her academic and professional activities can be followed at Linkedin, Academia and ResearchGate.
Meliss Cankara (Postdoctoral researcher)

Melis Cankara is an architect and architectural historian, and a post-doctoral researcher of the ERC Starting Grant HOMEACROSS. Between 2019-2021 she worked as a post-doctoral researcher at The Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS-FORTH) in Rethymno. She has previously held an Alexander S. Onassis fellowship for her post-doc research at the University of Crete, Department of History and Archeology in 2019.

Alexandra Mourgou (b. 1988, Athens) received a joint Ph.D. degree in cultural geography at the National Technical University of Athens and University Paris 1 Panthéon- Sorbonne in February 2022. She holds an Integrated Master’s Degree in Architectural Engineering at the N.T.U.A. and a post-master’s degree (D.S.A.) in Urbanism at the Ecole Nationale Superieure d’ Architecture de Paris La Villette.
Valia Gialia (PhD Candidate)

Valia Gialia is an architect (NTUA, 2009) and doctoral researcher at the ERC Starting Grant HOMEACROSS hosted by ELIAMEP. At the same time, she is a PhD Candidate at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens (2019 – 2023) and also holds a MA in Museology – Cultural Management (AUTH, 2021). Her research interests include questions of exhibition design, architecture and museology.
